Forum Archive, Site Move
Posted Saturday, March 1, 2008, 10:26 PM CST by Krang
I have finished converting the old forums to an HTML archive. This will make them much quicker to browse, and we will no longer have to worry about server capacity problems. Other than hosted subforums (which were archived separately), all posts and threads were backed up and are available for browsing at the usual place. Sorry, but personal information such as user profiles, avatars, signatures, PMs, and calendar entries were not backed up, but if there is anything particularly important that is not available on Archive.org, let me know and I may be able to retrieve it for you.
Also, the site has been moved once again to a new server. This one should be faster and more reliable than before. Everything has been moved over and should be up and running, but if you notice any errors, please let me know through email or by adding a comment to this news post.
News Script, 5th Anniversary
Posted Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 8:04 PM CST by Krang
The new news script is now online, so visitors can now leave comments for each news post. As long as comments are enabled, you'll see a form at the bottom of each news page that will allow you to add a comment. If you have any questions or come across any bugs, feel free to leave a comment or to email me.
Also, sorry for not posting about this earlier, but since Shredder and I opened Paradigm City on January 4, 2003, last month was its fifth anniversary! Thanks to our visitors for your continued support, and be sure to check back soon for more updates.
Original Ending of Act 26
Posted Thursday, October 11, 2007, 10:37 PM CST by Krang
Since the forums have closed and attachments are only available to registered members, several people have requested a copy of my translation of the original ending scene of Act 26 originally posted here. To make it available to everyone, I added it to our Transcripts section, so be sure to check it out if you haven't already seen it!
By the way, comments to news posts are currently unavailable because our news postings used to be part of the forums. Right now, I am manually adding news to our index page, but I will eventually install a news script that allows people to post feedback to news items.

Well, after remaining online for four and a half years, Paradigm City Forums are now officially closed for the reasons I mentioned in my last news post. We had some fun over the years and will remember the good times we had, but we feel that now is the time to close the forums rather than allowing the quality of discussion to degrade any further. Shredder and I would like to thank all of our members and visitors for the support, and we would especially like to thank our moderators for their help.
Keep in mind, though, that this is not the end. The Big Finale has set up a new forum for discussion about Big O, mecha anime, and much more named City of Amnesia. While we will not be administrators or moderators, Shredder and I will still be participating, so we hope to see you there!
Also, as I mentioned before, the site itself will not be affected, and we will continue to post updates, so please keep checking back for more Big O content.
We have come to terms.

Future of the Forums - Help Wanted
Posted Monday, July 16, 2007, 11:42 PM CST by Krang
As many of you have already noticed, the state of our forums has been getting worse and worse lately. They are now barely active, and the few posts that are made there mostly consist of spam, arguing, and trolling. Many of our members, including most of our moderators, have stopped visiting the forums entirely.
Taking all of this into consideration, Shredder and I feel that the bad far outweighs the good here and that it is no longer worth our time to maintain the forums. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close the forums in the near future. We have been considering this for a while, and we would rather shut down the forums than continue to let them get worse, so our decision is final.
However, we do recognize that there are still people who enjoy visiting here, and there are still several projects that we have agreed to host (such as R. Daniel Olk's season 3 project and Ace378's flash project), so we would still like to help support the community in some way. We decided that the best way to do that would be to help start a new Big O-related forum on a subdomain and direct our remaining forum visitors there.
To do this, we need a volunteer (or group of volunteers) to be the administrator of this new forum. There are no requirements other than being a current or former member of our forums and being motivated enough to breathe some life into the community. The new administrator will be responsible for creating and enforcing rules, hiring moderators, choosing and setting up the forum software, and all other administrative duties. I will remain as server admin and will be available as a technical adviser, but other than that, Shredder and I will not be managing the forums.
Please keep in mind that the site itself is not going anywhere. It will still remain online for as long as it is useful (which should be many more years), and we will continue to update it every now and then. The forums will also remain online as an archive with no posting permitted so that old discussions can still be viewed. You are still welcome to post on the forums until they are officially closed (keep an eye on this thread for more information on when that will be).
Thanks, and we hope to hear from a volunteer soon.
New Big O US Box Set Release!
Posted Thursday, March 29, 2007, 11:31 PM CST by Shredder
Big O is finally getting released as a complete box set! If you haven't collected the series or are just looking to have the show all in one place, you may want to check this out. AnimeonDVD.com is reporting that the set will be released on June 5, 2007 with a retail price of $39.98. There's a comment on the page that also mentions a "brand new theme song and logo," but neither has been confirmed yet (as well as any other new features, if any). Feel free to discuss this upcoming release in this thread.
A big thanks to Delariean for finding this release info!

New Big O Intro (in Japan)
Posted Saturday, February 24, 2007, 10:18 PM CST by Shredder
Another interesting bit of news from Japan regarding the Big O series- the series is currently airing on Animax (a Japanese satellite TV network dedicated to anime) with a brand new intro! There is no new animation (only clips from both seasons of the series), but the song is an entirely new composition from Rui Nagai (who performed the season 1 opening). You can view the new opening and discuss this topic in this thread.
A big thanks to Umbrella for this interesting find!

New Japanese Big O DVD Release!
Posted Wednesday, January 31, 2007, 11:31 PM CST by Shredder
It looks like Japan hasn't completely forgotten about Big O after all! A new 26 episode Big O boxset is being released in Japan on April 25. Besides including the entire series on six discs, it will include both the English (with Japanese subtitles) and Japanese audio tracks. The extra features include a 16 page liner notes booklet, a 12 page illustrations booklet, and textless OP/ED. Please note that since this is an international release, it will only work on Region 2 or region-free DVD players.
The current price for the set is (a steep) $300, although it looks like Amazon Japan is offering it for $230 (25% off). For more information on the set (including where to order it) as well as discussion about this release, check out this thread.
A huge thanks to Asirt for finding and posting about this!

Posted Thursday, January 11, 2007, 12:10 AM CST by Krang
As promised, here is the anniversary update. Since we have a lot of new content planned for this update (some of which is not quite ready yet), I decided to split the update into multiple parts like last year. For today's update, I uploaded 34 new pieces of fan art! Be sure to check out these excellent new drawings in our Fan Art section. Thanks to Alisha Cain, Zejan, Randy B., Uzhiel B., Rev XVII, Sarah Faria, Seihou, and Olsie for sending them in!
Check back soon for part 2 of the anniversary update. Enjoy!
