If you go to the Official Big O Japanese
website using bablefish:
link, the yellow text above the News link translates to:
As for THE big o Web
We end with 4/15.
Utilization, thank you.
Does that mean the website will be taken down on 4/15/2004? Does this mean bad things for the future of Big O?

I wouldnt be too worried. Unless it is an official website, u shouldnt fret. Websites are droppin like crazy these days. They run out of money, or there is just not enough interest.

But it IS the official Big O website! Was there an official website when Big O season 1 came out? If yes, then what happened to it during the LONG wait until season 2?
And under the What's New area, it mentions something:
* Televising with 2004/4/6 «üÈ¥üóÍÃÈïü¯ ended.
Not sure what the middle part says. This is interesting because the website has not had an update since mid-2003. They don't even list vol 2 of Lost Memory.
They could be doing a major update. Maybe they're going to make it have more manga stuff, last time I looked there it seemed to have mostly information about the anime version.
That kinda reminds me of how Starwars.com went without an update for like a year and a half before Phantom Menace came out.

I too remember that. When they did update they had up to the minute databank content updates as well as the latest news and of course an entirely new design layout.
Best case senario: the-big-o.net closes down for a while. We hear rumors of season 3 in production. Then we start seeing ads for season 3, and at the same time the-big-o.net re-appears with a new look and crap loads of new and improved content.

How do we know they are not permanently closing down?
Well, I guess they wouldn't really have to, I mean, Sunrise really has no need to close any of its official sites . . .

It wouldn't make much sense for the official site to close down permanently while the Season 2 DVDs are still being released. At least not to me. I guess we'll find out.
>_< I wish someone here spoke japanese

Our worst fears could be coming true, we could be seeing the last of Big O...
Come on, people! Cheer up!
I mean really; the fate of the Japanese website has nothing to do with weather we get a season 3 or not. It's all up to us, the american fans!
And the american fans are plentiful and growing in number all the time! We're always getting newbies here on Paradigm.
That's whats always awed me about Big O. It has all the coolness associated with being an anime created by Japanese in Japan but with the added factor that it's future is up to us.
Don't give up on Big O! Discouragement is the first step towards failure!
Sunrise can smell your doubt!
Adult Swim interns sit with their fingers poised above their keyboards: ready to make fun of us!
Stand strong!

p.s. hell, here's a suggestion: try buying 'Lost Memory' from animenation.com. Sure as hell hyped me up.

Big O isn't that popular in Japan. It's more popular here. So we care more about the site going down than they do. Just means that I should go get the desktop picture on there if I want it... like tonight!
*runs off to spend money.. maybe?*

The domain registration for the-big-o.net doesn't expire until 2009, so don't bother trying to snap up the domain name. (Yes, I check these things. Great names often are allowed to expire. Microsoft once accidentally allowed Microsoft.com to expire! Whoops!)

Bummer! That would have been a great domain name to have. Oh well.
Slightly off topic:
Very easy to let domain names expire. The person who forgot to pay the domain registration for Microsoft must have been in big trouble. Wonder if he still has a job????

Well, in japan the DVD's were already out......
"This sight ended release. Utilization thank you."
The release hasn't ended nooooooo!
We'll see what happens, if anything ever happens. If a season 3 ever happens.....
Cartoon Network still hasn't said publicly "there will be no season 3".
So we're still in that gray area.....

At least the stuff for sale is still seems to be available at the Sunrise online store. Still, it strikes me as odd - if a website isn't utilized much, it costs very little to operate. And why would they take it down if it still had alot of traffic?
Hummmm....
(very hopeful thought, with absolutely no evidence to back it up)
Is a transfer of rights in progress? Is this some sort of preparation for a launch for season 3, with a corresponding stateside launch of a fully english official Big O website?
Am I a rediculous optimist, or what?

You are, but so are we all...
Maybe they took it down because, right now, they've got nothing to update it with.

Okay.
But, seriously. The japanese site has nothing to do with the fate of Big O.
Adult Swim was still airing the 'Who wants another season of Big O?' bumpers into it's last week on air. Adult Swim
wants to make more Big O. They're trying to keep our hopes up and as insidous as Adult Swim's been in the past, but they aren't evil. Keeping our hopes up with no intention of giving us what we want is not only cruel, but stupid.
They can't afford to fuel our hopes (and with it letter writing campaigns and the such) for a third season if they have no intention of producing one. It doesn't make any sense. They need their audience's fanatic obcessions focused on shows they're currently producing.
If they bring the current 26 episodes back into the rotation without the 'who wants more Big O?' bumpers (or the like) then I'll give up on 'Big O', but not until then.

I've also heard about this.

It doesn't look good for future Big O, since the Japanese creators have to still be interested in the series for more to be made for Japan or America...it wouldn't officially be Big O unless it was made by the same creators as the first 26 acts. It'd just be like a fanwork...
