Anybody know anything about
this comic? Or anything else by Andi Watson?
| quote: |
| Andi Watson’s futuristic classic returns to print. This new edition combines the original four issues with the follow-up one-shot and short stories. Discover the world of Jomi, the android artist who’s more normal than the society that denies her a soul. Stalkers, supermodels, supermecha—it’s all in GEISHA |
It's done in vaguely manga style, but isn't, and was nominated for an Eisner slightly before Big O came out.
Freaky, no?

...An "Eisner"?
I assume this wasn't named for michael eisner, since...well, unless it's a razzy style award, that dosen't seem right.

You assume right.
The
Eisner is the most prestigious award a comic can get, apart from the rare few that make it to the Pullitzer level. The list on that page is a good starting point for people who are curious about comics.
It's named after
Will Eisner, a professor at SVA who applied a whole bunch of graphic design techniques and story types that hadn't been part of US comics up to that point. I don't personally care for his style, and judging by his lecture series he has an ego the size of a small planet
...but he's been cited as the inspiration of nearly every writer/artist I do like, so he's entitled, I guess.

I'm a huge Andi Watson fan. that man is genius. I highly Recomend his series "Skeleton Key" (Which I keep trying to make a website for.)

Interesting.
Now, an award for alienating almost all your stockholders...THATS something worthy of michael eisner.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback.
The concept sounded really interesting (not to mention Dorothy-like), particularly the bits of art history he threw into the mix in
Geisha, but none of my local book stores carry Oni titles and the
free samples on the Oni site didn't go far enough for me to make a judgement.
Hmm, she does kind of look like Quinn...darn you, Tony.
